In this blog, we\u2019ll walk you through how to set up and pair the ThirdReality Smart Plug <\/strong>using an Amazon Echo device with a built-in Zigbee hub. Setting up the Smart Plug:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before setting up your motion sensor, make sure your Echo device has Zigbee hub capability,<\/strong> which is required for pairing. Research which models meet your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Plug the Smart Plug into a working outlet<\/strong> near your Echo device.<\/li>
  2. The LED light on the plug will begin blinking rapidly<\/strong>, indicating it is in pairing mode.<\/li>
  3. If the LED stops blinking before pairing is complete, press and hold the button on the plug for at least 10 seconds<\/strong> until the LED starts blinking again. This will restart pairing mode.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Pairing the Device:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    To pair the motion sensor with your Echo device, follow these steps in the Alexa app:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Open the Alexa app.<\/li>
    2. Tap the \u201c+<\/strong>\u201d icon in the top right corner.<\/li>
    3. Tap \u201cDevice<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    4. Scroll all the way down and select \u201cOther<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    5. Tap \u201cZigbee<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    6. Tap \u201cDiscover Devices<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    7. It will search for the Smart Plug. This can take up to a minute.<\/li>
    8. When found, tap \u201cNext<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    9. Select the area you\u2019ll use the plug in, such as the living room or kitchen.<\/li>
    10. Tap \u201cAdd to Group<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>
    11. Tap \u201cContinue<\/strong>\u201d, then \u201cDone<\/strong>\u201d. You will rename it in the next step.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Name and Test the Plug:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Once your sensor is paired, you can rename it and test its functionality using the Alexa app:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. In the Alexa app, tap on \u201cDevices<\/strong>\u201d (lightbulb icon in the bottom left).<\/li>
      2. Tap the name Alexa gave to your new plug.<\/li>
      3. Tap the “Settings<\/strong>” icon (gear in the top right corner).<\/li>
      4. Tap \u201cEdit Name<\/strong>\u201d and change it to something easy to remember (e.g., \u201cLiving room plug\u201d).<\/li>
      5. Test with voice commands: \u201cAlexa, turn on [name]<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cAlexa, turn off [name]<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Creating a Routine:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Example Use: Turning the living room light on every morning at 7 AM.
        – Plug your light into the ThirdReality Smart Plug.
        – Leave the light switch in the \u201cOn\u201d position.
        – Create a routine in the Alexa app to turn it on at 7:00 AM every day.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. In the Alexa app, tap on \u201cDevices<\/strong>\u201d (lightbulb icon in the bottom left).<\/li>
        2. Tap the name you gave your new smart plug.<\/li>
        3. Tap “Create Routine<\/strong>” at the bottom of the page.<\/li>
        4. Tap the \u201c+<\/strong>\u201d icon in the top right corner to create a new routine.<\/li>
        5. Under “When”<\/strong>, tap the \u201c+\u201d<\/strong> next to “Add an Event.”<\/strong><\/li>
        6. Select \u201cSchedule.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        7. Tap “At Time<\/strong>“.<\/li>
        8. To the right of \u201cRepeat,\u201d<\/strong> tap \u201cEvery Day.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        9. Customize the days of the week by unchecking and checking days<\/strong> so the routine is customized to your needs.<\/li>
        10. Tap “Save<\/strong>“<\/li>
        11. To the right of \u201cAt Time,\u201d<\/strong> select the time you want the light to turn on. For this example, set it to 7:00 AM<\/strong>.<\/li>
        12. Tap \u201cNext.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        13. Under “Alexa Will,”<\/strong> tap the \u201c+\u201d<\/strong> next to “Add an Action.”<\/strong><\/li>
        14. Tap \u201cSmart Home.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        15. Tap \u201cPlugs.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        16. Select the checkbox next to your smart plug name.<\/strong><\/li>
        17. Tap “Next.<\/strong>“<\/li>
        18. Ensure \u201cPower\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cOn\u201d<\/strong> are selected, then tap \u201cNext.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>
        19. Tap \u201cSave\u201d<\/strong> to complete the routine.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
