Instead of just large-print books, new assistive technologies offer incredible customization and a wider range of benefits.<\/p>\n<p id=\"dd94\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">One new approach, created by my startup <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/r\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.beelinereader.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/r\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.beelinereader.com\">BeeLine Reader<\/a>, is a tool that enhances visual tracking by using color gradients instead of plain black text. BeeLine <a href=\"https:\/\/abilitytools.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/beelinedtext.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2047 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/abilitytools.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/beelinedtext-206x300.png\" alt=\"Screen shot of tablet shoeing the progression of colors in the beeline reader text.\" width=\"206\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilitytools.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/beelinedtext-206x300.png 206w, https:\/\/abilitytools.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/beelinedtext.png 301w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a>Reader has become very popular in the dyslexia and low-vision communities, where visual tracking is a common impediment to reading fluency and enjoyment. This tool is also widely used in the ADHD community, due to its ability to enhance focus. It has been studied and subsequently <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/r\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbookshareblog.wpengine.com%2F2016%2F09%2Fbeeline-reader-adds-color-to-bookshare%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/r\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbookshareblog.wpengine.com%2F2016%2F09%2Fbeeline-reader-adds-color-to-bookshare%2F\">adopted by accessibility nonprofit Bookshare<\/a> and is used in classrooms and homes around the world.<\/p>\n<p id=\"169c\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Technologies like this are not only helping people in the accessibility community read more easily\u2014 they are also helping change the perception of accessibility and universal design. Because BeeLine Reader is used widely by skilled\/unimpaired readers (as a speed-reading tool), it is exposing people to the notion that by embracing universal design principles we can make life better for all people.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5ce2\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Today, we are excited to announce a new program, through which any device lending library or independent living center can get free access to our tools.
