When living with a mobility disability, the right assistive technology can be a game-changer, offering the support needed to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. For Greg, a 60-year-old volunteer at the Disabled Resources Center, Inc. (DRC), mobility challenges post-knee surgery threatened his confidence and routine. However, with the right support and a rollator from DRC’s lending library, he found a way to stay active and reclaim his freedom.

Following knee surgery, Greg faced significant mobility challenges that affected his independence, confidence, and ability to participate in daily activities and social interactions. He was struggling with mobility, making it difficult to navigate both his home and community. Simple tasks that many may take for granted required extra effort, often leading to frustration. He needed a device to support his recovery and restore his active lifestyle. That’s when he discovered the rollator from the DRC lending library.

A rollator is a mobility aid with four wheels, hand brakes, and a built-in seat, providing support, stability, and rest for those with mobility disabilities.

The rollator’s sturdy frame and built-in seat allowed Greg to move around confidently and rest using the seat located in the center of the rollator whenever necessary, preventing overexertion. The device gave him the freedom to reconnect with his surroundings and regain control over his daily life.

Extending beyond its functional benefits, with his newfound mobility, Greg experienced a shift in mindset. Instead of feeling restricted throughout his recovery, he embraced the possibilities ahead of him. The right AT not only empowered him to navigate life more easily but also reinforced the idea that technology, when matched with a positive attitude, can be life-changing. Greg expressed profound gratitude for the rollator and support from DRC, leaving him feeling uplifted and thankful as he improved his mobility and quality of life.

Greg’s story is a testament to the power of AT. Because, when it comes to independence, ability, and living life on your own terms, AT-titude is truly everything!
